This lesson is designed to help students conduct research on the internet to identify animals based on their various characteristics, and classify them into their perspective animal taxonomy within the kingdom Animalia.

 

Students will have already learned some of the basics regarding the taxonomy of animals in the animal kingdom Animalia, and they will know that certain similar characteristics can be used to group animals into groupings, to then be classified accordingly. This previous knowledge will be expanded upon through the use of this site.

 

Students will classify various animals through the utilization of their research and observation skills to identify similarities or differences between groups of animals.  Relationships can then be established, and grouping these observations will then allow them to identify animals within the correct classification in the animal kingdom Animalia. 

 

This lesson will require students to work collaboratively as well as independently to research the characteristics of the kingdom Animalia and create  a mind map of their findings.
